Drag Click Test: Measure Your Drag Clicking CPS

Drag your finger across the button and let friction do the clicking. See total clicks, your peak one-second CPS and how long each burst lasts.

Gap between clicks (red bars are under 15 ms, likely double registers)

Drag clicking is the fastest clicking technique there is, and also the strangest. Instead of pressing the button, you drag a dry fingertip along it. The friction makes your finger skip across the surface, and every tiny skip presses the switch. A good drag can register 20, 30 or more clicks in a single second, far beyond what any deliberate press can reach.

This drag click test is built for how drag clicking really works: in short bursts. It measures your total clicks and CPS, your peak clicks in any one second, and the length of your longest burst, so you can see how many clicks each drag produces and how consistently you repeat it.

How to use the drag click test

  1. Choose five or ten seconds. Most drag clicking is measured over five.
  2. Make sure your fingertip is clean and dry. Moisture kills the friction you need.
  3. Press lightly on the back of the left button and drag your finger forward along it.
  4. Repeat the drag as many times as you can before the timer ends.
  5. Read your peak CPS and longest burst, then check the chart for how evenly the clicks arrived.

How the test measures drag clicking

Clicks and CPS

Each registered press is timestamped. CPS is the total divided by the round length. Because drag clicks come in bursts with pauses between them, your average CPS is always lower than your peak.

Peak CPS

The peak is the highest number of clicks inside any rolling one-second window. This is the number drag clickers usually compare, because it shows how dense a single drag can be.

Longest burst

A burst is a run of clicks where every gap is under 60 milliseconds. The longest burst tells you how many clicks one drag produced before your finger lifted or lost friction. More clicks per drag means you need fewer drags in a fight.

Why some mice drag click better

Drag clicking depends on the button surface and the switch. A slightly grippy, matte coating gives friction, while glossy or very smooth coatings let your finger slide without skipping. Light switches with short travel register more of the tiny impacts. Some players add grip tape to the button to make dragging easier. If a mouse suddenly drags much better than it used to, the switch may be starting to double click; check it in the double click test.

Drag clicking compared with other techniques

Drag clicking gives the highest bursts, but it is less controlled. The jitter click test measures a steadier vibration technique, and the butterfly click test measures alternating fingers. For everyday speed, the CPS test and the click speed test show your normal clicking pace.

Finger angle

Most drag clickers hold the finger at a shallow angle, close to flat against the button, and drag with the pad of the fingertip rather than the tip itself. A flatter angle gives more contact and more skips per drag. Experiment in five second rounds and watch how the longest burst changes as you adjust.

Tips for better drag clicking

  • Wipe your fingertip and the mouse button before each set.
  • Use light pressure. Pressing too hard stops the skipping motion.
  • Start the drag near the back of the button to get a longer run.
  • Try a small piece of grip tape if your button is very smooth.
  • Rest between rounds, because the fingertip can become sore.

Reading your results

Look at the chart after each round. A good drag shows a dense cluster of short bars, then a gap while you reset your finger, then another cluster. If the clusters are short and scattered, you are losing friction early; clean the button or reduce pressure. If one long cluster is followed by nothing, you are spending too long resetting between drags. Your personal best for each duration is saved in your browser, so you can see whether small changes in finger angle or pressure make a real difference over several days.

Is drag clicking allowed?

Many servers allow drag clicking but cap the clicks per second they accept. Some servers treat very high CPS as auto clicking and may kick or ban players. Know the limits of the servers you play on before relying on it. Drag clicking also wears switches quickly because it produces so many presses, so keep a spare mouse for serious practice.

Where drag clicking helps

It is most useful for bridging and building in Minecraft, where a single drag can place many blocks, and in clicker games where raw click count matters more than precision.

Frequently asked questions

What is drag clicking?

A technique where you drag a dry fingertip along the mouse button so friction makes it press the switch many times in one motion.

What is a good drag click CPS?

A peak of 16 to 22 CPS is fast. Above 22 is considered elite.

Why is my average CPS lower than my peak?

Drag clicks come in bursts with gaps between drags, so the average includes those pauses.

What does longest burst mean?

The most clicks in a row with gaps under 60 milliseconds, roughly how many clicks one drag produced.

Why can I not drag click on my mouse?

Glossy buttons, heavy switches or damp fingers reduce friction. Try cleaning the button or adding grip tape.

Does drag clicking damage the mouse?

It uses switches up quickly because of the huge number of clicks. Occasional practice is fine.

Is drag clicking the same as an auto clicker?

No. It is a manual technique, but some servers cap CPS because the numbers can look similar.

Can I drag click on a touchpad?

No. Touchpads do not register the tiny skipping presses that drag clicking relies on.

Which game benefits most from drag clicking?

Minecraft bridging and building, and clicker games where raw click count matters.

Is your switch keeping up?

Heavy clicking wears switches. Check for unwanted double clicks before they cost you a fight.
